Baton Rouge, La. — The Louisiana Center for the Book at the State Library of Louisiana will celebrate Black History Month with a tribute to Dr. Ernest J. Gaines on Wednesday, Feb. 19, from Noon - 1:30 p.m. Two-time Louisiana Poet Laureate, Gaines Center board member, and long-time friend, Dr. Darrell Bourque will host the event alongside several authors, poets, and Dr. Gaines' close friends.

The event will be located in the Seminar Center of the State of Louisiana, located at 701 North 4th Street, Baton Rouge, La.

"When we lost Ernest Gaines this past November, we lost a state treasure," said Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser.

The author of acclaimed novels The Authobiography of Miss Jane Pittman and A Lesson Before Dying passed away at his home in Oscar, La. on Nov. 5, 2019.
